Deliberate vandalism has affected many aspects of social life beyond the urban space, from individual and social health to environmental sustainability. Tourism and its tangible attractions are one of the areas that are frequently exposed to such deliberate vandalism. Responding to this social issue, controlling, stopping, and reducing it depends on accurately identifying the roots and factors of its occurrence and emergence. Among the appropriate solutions to identify the roots and reasons for this type of criminal behavior in the field of tourism is to study and evaluate them from the perspective of experts in this field. Thus, in the present study, relying on a qualitative method, semi-structured interview tools, and content analysis methods, the roots of vandalistic behavior in the field of tourist attractions in Qom province, as one of the country's tourist destinations, were investigated and analyzed. For this purpose, 30 experts in the fields of social sciences, behavioral sciences, and tourism executives were interviewed. The research findings indicate that the roots of tourists' tendency to vandalism in the historical attractions of Qom can be divided into categories such as social factors, psychological factors, family conflicts, lack of awareness, conflicts in social environments, and incentive groups. In general, it should be said that this behavior has multiple roots, and its prevention, due to its multiple roots, must be carried out with a comprehensive view and with an eye on all the roots.
